| Colton Point is a Pennsylvania State Park on the west side of the Pine Creek Gorge (also known as the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania). The Pine Creek Gorge is 800 feet (240 m) deep and almost 4,000 feet (1,200 m) across at this location. Native Americans had once used the Gorge as a major travel route. The Pine Creek Trail that exists today follows the same general path that they used. This area has also been used for lumbering, and was an active railroad (the last train passed through in 1988). It was designated as a National Natural Landmark in 1968. |
